I listened to some music as I was cooking the other day and one of my favourite songs of the moment came on. I began to dance around the kitchen; not a pretty sight I’ll grant you but I felt good. The song was ‘Uptown Funk’ and is not only catchy but I also associate it with a Danceathon I had organised at school for Red Nose Day. We had thoroughly enjoyed the day and had raised an awful lot of money so it had been a highlight for me.

I suddenly thought, why hadn’t I made a playlist of feel good songs earlier? There and then, I began to search through my songs and create one. I chose anything that makes me want to move, as well as songs that reminded me of happy experiences; a couple were from a summer holiday in 2009. It was the best holiday with friends I have ever been on and was just what I needed at the time. It was a time we will never get back again as we have all moved on in our lives but hearing those songs takes me straight back there with them and makes me feel alive.

Listening to the playlist, I have deleted one or two songs as they don’t sit in it as well as I thought they would when I put it together. I had revised and adjusted it but made sure that my goal of feeling good when I listen to it is still achieved. I’m sure in time I will continue to add to it and some songs will fade in significance.

I began to wonder what songs people listen to. Are they songs that bring you down? Remind you of sad times? Loneliness? Chilled songs are always a winner for my husband and I on a Sunday morning; reading the paper and cooking lunch. I can’t believe I hadn’t made a feel good list before.

Music can make you feel so much and what we feel affects the way we think.

So do you have a feel good playlist? If not, I recommend you make one!
